Building Diagnostics Group

Building Diagnostics Group, Inc. (BDG) specializes in identifying potential hidden building defects in commercial, multi family, and residential properties throughout the United States. We routinely perform these services for many Fortune 100 companies. BDG focuses on the “Group” approach to your projects.
The word “group” in our name is our commitment that we can meet the needs of your project. We have working relationships with many qualified individuals throughout the United States. From Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIH) for residential/commercial indoor air quality investigations to many different disciplines of engineering/architectural services, we have the experience and knowledge to handle any size project.
Using the newest high-resolution infrared thermography (IR) equipment we can identify building deficiencies not visible to the human eye. Infrared thermography is the use of specialized camera equipment that accurately measures surface temperatures of a targeted object. Robert Scherer, President of BDG has used IR for the last 8 years in many different applications.
Our specialized equipment is thermally tuned to detect temperature differentials in building materials down to approximately 2 degrees F. Camera sensitivity is extremely important when used to identify potential detects. Not all IR cameras are equal. The sensitivity of an IR camera is important. Camera manufactures are now producing low resolution camera equipment for under $5000.00. While these cameras are capable of detecting substantial anomalies, (defects) they do not have the sensitivity or resolution to detect many hidden problems. BDG uses only high-resolution camera equipment from FLIR, the leader in IR camera technology.
Our cameras are specially “tuned” for building science. The knowledge to interpret these images is just as important as IR images are “raw data” that needs to be properly reviewed to identify potential faults. All of our consultants are experts in this field, certified Building Science Thermographers, and have extensive experience in interpreting building related images. Over the last 8 years we have saved our clients millions of dollars in hidden building defects as well as served as experts in many building defect litigation cases. IR has many applications in building arena. The most common use is the detection of water intrusion. We can, non-destructively, determine if a structure has damage from an active water intrusion. These specific areas include roof systems and many different types of exterior cladding systems.
